Thelma's African Romance: Part 1 is the first part of the fifteenth episode of Season 4, and the seventy-sixth overall. It is one-half of an episode. Written by John Ashley Hamilton and Bob Peete, the episode, which was directed by Gerren Keith, originally aired on CBS-TV on January 19, 1977.

Synopsis Edit

Thelma gets suspended after arranging a school boycott. She also becomes the object of desire for Ibe, an exchange student who proposes that they live together.


Thelma and her college friends are having a meeting to decide what to do about the school cafeteria, but things come to a head when the African exchange student, Ibe, starts making sexist remarks about "woman's work". They finally agree to have a picket, but on the day of the picket, the assistant dean ends up them suspending Thelma. Meanwhile, Thelma and Ibe begin seeing each other, resulting in Ibe asking her to move in with him.
