Synopsis Edit

While James is out of town Florida and her brother must figure out what's wrong with Michael. With poor grades and cutting class, Florida realizes a meeting with Michael's teacher should get to the bottom of things. Louis Gossett, Jr. guest stars as Uncle Wilbert, Florida's brother.

Florida is worried about Michael when he starts cutting classes, not doing homework, and getting into fights. Florida talks to the teacher to determine the problem.

Normally the most level-headed member of the Evans family, young Michael (Ralph Carter) has suddenly begun acting in a goofy fashion: getting into fights, cutting classes, and failing exams. With dad James (John Amos) out of town, Florida (Esther Rolle) and her brother Wilbert (Louis Gossett Jr.) try to root out the cause of Michael's strange behavior.

It turns out Michael was given the opportunity to attend a special school for gifted students and struggled with the challenge. Michael reveals to his mother and uncle that he's tired of always being thought of as super-smart and maybe wants to be treated like any other teenager.
