Junior the Senior is the eighth episode of Season 1 of Good Times, also the 8th overall series episode. Written as a teleplay by Ken Hecht, Lloyd Garver with Lou Derman and Bill Davenport from a story written by Hecht and Garver, the episode, which was directed by Herbert Kenwith, premiered on CBS-TV, originally airing on March 29, 1974.
Synopsis[]
James and Florida are concerned J.J. won't graduate, but when he comes home with really good grades they become suspicious.
Storyline[]
Its report card day and as expected Thelma and Michael both get good grades. However J.J. who was expected to get straight F's except in art, winds up getting not only an A in art, but all C's ensuring promotion to the 12th grade. When Florda and James see that his test papers were all failing they visit the principal to find out what is going on. It is later explained that the principal promoted J.J. in order to ensure that the school would get funding for the next term. This doesn't sit well with Flo and James who demand that J.J. stay back a year until he get's his academic act together. Will J.J. do what his parents expect or will he continue to skate through school?
Plot summary[]
Florida and James are worried that J.J. will not pass into the 12th grade but when he gets his report card he did indeed pass but the grades seem to be a far cry from what they should be. This leads James and Florida to do a little investigating.
