Florida's Protest is the eleventh episode of Season 3 and the forty-eighth episode overall. Written as a teleplay by Allan Mannings from a story by Patricia Edwards, the episode, which was directed by Herbert Kenwith, premiered on CBS-TV; it first aired on November 25, 1975.
Synopsis[]
Florida leads a picket line against the neighborhood supermarket after a roast she bought from the store made everyone sick. As they continue their boycott, the police are called and Florida, along with Willona and the rest of the boycotters are carted off to jail.
Storyline[]
Florida decides to splurge on groceries and buy roast beef for dinner. While everyone enjoys the meal, the next day they have food poisoning. She talks to the store who refuses to listen, and so Florida decides to start a boycott.
Plot summary[]
An uncommonly lavish roast beef dinner proves disastrous when the entire Evans household comes down with food poisoning. An outraged Florida (Esther Rolle) gathers her neighbors together and organizes a boycott of the market that sold her the tainted food. As a result, Florida lands in jail for the first time in her life.
