Synopsis[]

Michael reveals he's an atheist. When Florida learns that his boss, Carl, instilled this idea, she confronts him.

  • Note: Moses Gunn makes his first appearance as Carl Dixon.

Storyline[]

Florida confronts Michael's boss at the hardware store after she learns that his atheist views are negatively influencing her son.

Plot summary[]

The devoutly religious Florida (Esther Rolle) is shocked when her son Michael (Ralph Carter) begins espousing an atheistic viewpoint. It turns out that Michael has fallen under the influence of his new boss named Carl Dixon (Gunn), who's a staunchly "confirmed nonbeliever". Florida angrily storms into the Carl's shop for a showdown -- with startling results, as the two take a shine to one another, and plan to go out on a date. Moses Gunn makes his first series appearance as Carl Dixon.
